Homebrew: Extra Special Bitter

Today I got into the 2005 Brewing Season for real. This time was an Extra Special Bitter. This recipe was the first one that I put together on my own after looking to see how several different ESB's were put together. I have to admit that I got the recipe from more experimentation than knowledge of the outcome, so hopefully this one turns out good.

The End of an Era

Is the pope polish? Well then again it is the little changes that are important.

Makin a few hunderd gallons of beer.

First off yes I’m still alive, I’ve been busy working on several projects and have spent every moment in front of a computer working on those. One of the things I was working on was to redesign and program the new AutismLink website which was launched just the other day.I had the coolest opportunity the other day; Scott Smith from East End Brewing Company invited me to join him for a brew day. I had a blast, read on to get all the roasty delicious details.

My Tivo was not responding to the remote.

This isn't going to be too exciting, but I had a problem with my Tivo Series 1 this evening, I was not responding to the remote control the yellow light wasn't flashing to the remote code. After several reboots of varying times the remote still wasn't working. On the tivo I found a program called irtest. I googled for it and found this page.I stopped the Event Switcher with:/tvbin/switcherstart -k

Upgrading Frimware on a Memorex MP5125A DVD Burner

Recently I discovered that I was unable to burn to 8x write disks with my Memorex 2.4x DVD+R/RW (MP5125A). I was hoping that this was fixed in a newer version of firmware. The process of upgrading the firmware was not quite straight forward so here is what I did.Update: 5 minutes after i posted the story.I found a link to the Memorex version of the 1.72 firmware (Local).

The Good Ole Days

Picture yourself, a teenager in a brave new world. Man has created flying machines, the United States is on the eve of the great war, and there may be a few automobiles in your town, but you probably work on your family's farm and walk to school. One day you are board and sick of waiting for someone to invent the television so you sit down and start reading your Boy Scout Handbook. It's 1913 and the writers were real men, or masters of satire looking for a gig. The Daily Show was still a few years off, and they could not just sit around waiting for Farnsworth to invent the TV.

I want to be a part of it.

For those of you who didn’t know, I’m in New York City this week for some training and the verdict is in; This city is awesome! There is so much going on, and one of the coolest things is that you can’t smoke in bars. It’s great coming home and not smelling like an ashtray.

High Definition Finally

Tonight, nearly 2 years after I first got my HDTV I watched my first program in High Definition. I’ll wait while you read that again. I know that it doesn’t sound like me to have a HDTV and not HD programming, but I do have a good reason.2 years ago Armstrong had HD Cable and it was only $5 a month but they only had 3 channels. The reason that I didn’t get it was that I never watch live programming because I record everything on my Tivo and watch it later. Standard Tivos can’t record HD programming. If I did get HD it would have been used very rarely.

Homebrew: Ommegod (I screwed up again) Belgian Ale

Last weekend I brewed with the help of Greg. The recipe that we were to make was a clone of Ommegang. This was also the first time that I tried to do a partial mash brewing. Things went rather smoothly especially since I ordered the wrong ingredients.
