Some New Brewing Equipment

Last week I was told of a guy who was getting out of brewing and he was selling all of his old equipment. He had a lot of equipment and it was a lot of the things that I needed if I wanted to expand my brewing to all-grain and kegging. It was a great price and I just couldn’t pass it up. The brewing I had been doing in the past was extract brewing, that’s kind of like buying pie dough at the store and making a pie, with all grain brewing it would be like making the dough from scratch.Kegging will also be wonderful because anyone who has helped me bottle knows that it’s tedious to clean, sanitize, fill, and cap 40 or so bottles that make up a batch of beer. Here is everything that I got1 of the Sabco Deluxe Kegs set up for a mash tun. Very nice piece of equipment, it retails for over $300. This is the piece of equipment that lets me be able to do all grain brewing. It’s a 1/2 barrel keg with the top cut off, it has a drain spigot, a false bottom, a dip tube and thermometer.1 Converted Keg Kettle that is similar to what I have now. I’m going to use this as my hot liquor tank. That’s a vessel where I need to store hot water to sparge the grains in the mash tun. Sparging is basically rinsing all the sugars out of the grain and collecting the juice (wort) for the boiling part of making beer.2 Propane Burners and tanks, the same basic turkey fryer but these are on taller stands, it’s nice because these stands are tall enough so the keg on the stand is high enough to drain into a vessel sitting on the ground. That will be great, as I no longer will have to lift boiling hot kettles of water from the burner to a wooden table that I built that was tall enough for draining. I also got a lot of stuff so I can start kegging my beer instead of bottling. I got 2 of the 5 gallon Cornelius kegs, these are the soda kegs that restaurants use, they are great for kegging home brew. I also got 2 1/4 barrel kegs. These are the 2 prong kegs that you fill with a hole on the side and use a mallet to hammer in a wooden bung. The stuff had several taps, one of the cobra type taps that connect to the corny kegs, 2 pull taps for the 2 prong kegs, and a pull tap that mounts right onto the corny keg.I think that was about it, I’m in the process of cleaning everything out. It came to me in quite a mess. There was still beer crud in one of the kegs, ooo wee did that smell. The mash tun had crud still in the bottom of it. The taps were all dirty crusty and gross. I have everything that I can disassembled and soaking in PBW. I need to get a couple hoses to replace ones that were hopelessly dirty, a few clamps, and a couple disconnects. And I’ll be off and kegging.I'll post a photo of all the stuff once I got it clean.
