The Olympics and Tivo

Tivo has been very useful for transforming some shows from painful into enjoyable, but I have found no show that it helps more than Olympic Broadcasts. NBC is carrying the Olympics on something like 6 or 7 different channels, NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Bravo, and Telemundo I can recall at the moment. With events airing at all different times there is no way you will find anything other than gymnastics if you were trying to find an event on your own.I set up an Autorecord Wishlist to catch the Olympics no matter the channel or when the program is airing. In the program guide all the broadcasts are named “XVIII Summer Olympics” so it was easy to make a wishlist, adjust the priority so it doesn’t skip Six Feet Under and a few other summer premiere shows that we watch. That gives me hours and hours of Olympic events, boring biopics, banal banter, and inane interviews, a cavalcade of commercials, and meager medal ceremonies. As you can see there is a lot of crap in there that I don’t want to watch. With the fast forward on the Tivo it’s easy to go forward, back to find the interesting bits of TV and fly past everything else. Monday night I condensed 13 hours of coverage into 2 hours of good solid event coverage. So I leave you all with a question. How did you enjoy that biopic on that athlete that you never heard of and never will again? Do you even remember his name?
