Oh, You Ate That?!?

Saturday was a day at sea, and a well needed one that , after two days of having a lot of things to do, this is a nice change. We slept in a little longer than yesterday and now I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the time zone change. For breakfast we did the buffet, had the normal sausage, eggs, french toast type breakfast. After lunch we checked out all of the parts of the ship. I took a nap to help adjust even more to the time changes. At 5 we had a beer tasting 101 seminar, we got to taste several good beers, LaConner ESB, Far West Three Threads Porter, Bert Grants Imperial Stout, Pike IPA, RedHook SunRye Ale. The best beer was the Pike IPA. I was really excited to try the Bert Grants Imperial Stout, and it wasn't bad, but it doesn't stand up to Bells Expedition or North Coast Old Rasputin. Someone that I was talking to said that it used to be better, they changed the recipe a few years ago.It was formal night for dinner so we got dressed up and had our portrait taken. For dinner I had a salmon wrapped patte thingie, onion soup, and Duck l'Orange. On the plate with the duck there was lima beans, a fried potato that looked like a hush puppies and some white molded thing that tasted a little like eggs. After I had eaten it we asked the waitress what it was, and she looked at my plate and said "Oh, You ate that? It's a garnish. You are the only person that I've seen who has eaten it." For desert I had a chocolate cake. After Dinner we walked around the ship and I took some night shots. There were some good compositions, but a lot of blurry photos because I didn't bring a tripod on the cruise. I won't even mention the karokee bar since the few singers that we listened to were pretty bad. This morning we ticked ahead another time zone so now I that I'm getting used to pacific daylight we are on GMT -8 so I'm going to wake up an hour earlier, I did manage to sleep to 6:30 but couldn't sleep after that. We are in a sound, stright, or some sort on the way to Juneau. There are mountains on both sides of the ship which are crowned in cloud cover. In the water are whales. I've seen quite a few spouts from the blow holes, at one time there was a pod of 10-20 whales and it was a constant series of water spouts, I got some good video and maybe some good still photos. I can't tell yet.We will arrive at Juneau at 1:00 local time, (5 PM EDT). Where we tour the Alaska Brewery and have a pick nick with the brewery. I'll let you know more tomorrow, hopefully I get to post this before we arrive, in an hour.
